Bertrand Lavier (FR)
Modern Art out of a Mickey Mouse adventure – the artist transforms comic into sculptures.
Amorphous sculptures and abstract pictures placed in front of colorful walls: and where’s the comic? It’s not only the title of the Walt Disney production that nudges the works of Bertrand Lavier (*1949) into Fumetto’s proximity. The internationally renowned concept artists transports visitors at the Kunstmuseum Luzern straight into a Mickey Mouse story out of the year 1977. Lavier transformed these fictitious art works from the comic story into real exhibit objects which long since are being traded at high value. Lavier humorously questions the borders of fine art and entertainment culture. He thus follows the same goal as Fumetto – not to merely accept traditional restrictions but to reassess stances.
The Centre Georges Pompidou has honored Betrand Lavier with a retrospection in 2012. His Walt Disney productions belong to his most significant work cycles.
