Comics tell a story by means of pictures – regardless of speech bubbles. For the blind or visually impaired they defy translation, or do they really? The comic-artist Ilan Manouach has been working for many years on a language form, which allows to experience not only text but all levels of expression via the tactile senses. His Shapereader conveys comics with over 200 different surface structures – an experiment for the visually challenged as well as the seeing visitor. The exhibition invites the collective discovery of new fictitious worlds and opens the discussion on the topic of communication. For Fumetto, the Greek artist developed accessible forms of the Shapereader, which has – along with the first version – attracted international attention. Shapereader will be accompanied by a workshop.
